Wise County Heritage Museum

Owned and operated by the Wise County Historical Society, this landmark building and museum was built in 1893 and was once the home of Decatur Baptist College. Today, visitors of all ages can explore interesting exhibits that highlight Wise County's past, visit the library archives, enjoy fun family style activities, and attend several special events offered at the museum site throughout the year.

Memberships

You can support the Wise County Historical Museum through an annual membership that helps continue the museum’s daily operations and its important restoration projects. Single 12-month memberships are available for $10 per person or $15 for couples. Single lifetime memberships are available for $150.

Hours of Operation & Admission

The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm. Visitors are accepted on Sundays by appointment only. Tickets are $3 for adults over age 13, $1 for children 6-12, and free for children under 5. Call the museum at (940) 627-5586 before your visit to confirm they are open.

    The building was constructed in 1893 as the site of the Northwest Baptist College, which became Decatur Baptist College in 1897 and served as a preparatory school for Baylor University before moving to Dallas in 1965.

    The Wise County Historical Society owns and runs the museum. It also works to fundraise for the operation and restoration of the building and its exhibits.
